The Corunna Juniors competed in the OBA Junior A Championships this past weekend and came out with a great effort picking up a Silver medal.
On Friday afternoon in game 1 they faced Dundas, beating them 8-6 with Kyle Smith picking up the win on the mound. Smith also collected 2 hits including a triple along with 2 hits from Joe Stock. Greg Hay scored twice while Jordan Pavey and Stock added doubles.
Game 2 came early on Saturday morning against Woodslee and the Giants came out with a 13-3 win. Greg Hay picked up the win while Pavey banged out 3 hits and Mitch McKeegan scored 4 times. Corunna then earned a bye and faced a tough Halton Hills team.
In game 3 against Halton Hills the team struggled defensively making multiple errors leading to a 8-2 loss. Brett Farr pitched well but ended up taking the loss. The Giants also stuggled at the plate managing only 3 hits.
Game 4 came Sunday morning and the Giants were ready taking on the defending Provincial Champs from Port Dover. Corunna banged out 16 hits and Nolan Farr pitched a strong game with Travis Moore picking up the save in a 8-1 win. Colton Osborne lead off the game with a triple and collected 2 hits with Brett Farr, Jake Romphf, Joe Stock, Kyle Smith and Jordan Pavey also collecting 2 hits apiece.
Game 5 was the Final against Halton Hills once again. With Halton Hills scoring twice in the top of the first inning the Giants came back with 4 in the bottom half but could not hold them off. Final score was 8-5 for Halton Hills. Jordan Pavey once again lead the team in hits going 3 for 4 while Colton Osborne, Greg Hay and Zack Sutherland collected 2 hits apiece.
Jordan Pavey had an outstanding weekend at the plate batting .714
