GIANTS #2 UNDEFEATED IN YEAR END TOURNAMENT!
The 13U Corunna Giants #2, went undefeated in the River league year end tournament to capture the Gold this past weekend!
Not even Jack and his Bean Stocks could reach the height of the Corunna Giants #2 this weekend.
Corunna 2, the giants in white, went undefeated this past weekend to capture the gold in the 13U river league playoffs.
Not one player or coach can say that they led this team, because it was in fact, the kids that came together as a TEAM, and played for each other. Win as a team, lose as a team was our motto.
As a coach it was beautiful to watch these kids play these last few weeks, watching the chemistry all come together. How they talked, backed each other up, waited for their pitches and each had their own shining moment during the season, I thank you all for allowing me a front row seat.
Starting off the year end tournament, we played Oil Springs in game 1. A very tight game with a tie score of 4-4 going into our last inning. Nolan L hit a bomb to left center, over the outfielder, to walk it off for the win. Nolan B, Tyler V and Kason H all had stellar pitching performances.
STAR GAME 1 = NOLAN LOUTTIT, 2/2, 3RBI, 2B, SB!
Game 2 was at McVean park against Wallaceburg 2. Tied after the first inning, Corunna pitching shut the door the rest of the way with ace Tyler V doing most of the work, saved at the end by Noah B who struck out the only two batters he faced. The Giants in White came away with a 9-2 win.
STAR GAME 2 =KASON HARRIS, 1/2, DBL, RBI, RUN, 2SB!
Game 3 was against Wallaceburg 1, a very trying game for our boys, patience and adversity paved the way for this win. It was a dominating performance by Nolan Louttit, complete game that was 14-2 until the final inning where wallaceburg finally scored 5 more to make the final 14-7. All the giants hit well Kason and Nolan B with doubles and David Zink with a triple on a gap hit, Zinker also had 3SB.
STAR GAME 3 = NOLAN LOUTTIT, 3 IP, 4K, 85 PITCH COMPLETE GAME!
Game 4 Sunday morning was our toughest challenge against Dutton Grey. Corunna was behind all game but kept battling, amassing 11 hits in the game. One of the most important hits of the game came off the bat of Thomas Gignac, batting in 2 RBI. Corunna was only up 9-7 going into the last at bats for Dutton, when Colby Sheffer came to the mound for the first time in a month. Colby went 1 IP, 1 hit allowed and 3 strikeouts to shut the door and secure the win and move us to the finals as a undefeated team.
STAR GAME 4 = THOMAS GIGNAC, 1/2, 2RBI, BB, AND A STOLEN BASE!
Game 5, the FINALS. We played Wallaceburg 1 again. Our ace in the hole Colby started the game going 2.2 innings, 2k, only 1 walk. Kason H came in for the save. The heavy hitting Giants got out to a early 8-1 lead going into the last inning. although they allowed 5 runs, the Giants held them off to secure the CHAMPIONSHIP!
STAR GAME 5 = THE ENTIRE TEAM! A TOTAL TEAM WEEKEND! EVEN FINN BURNIE, OUR MISSING PLAYER, WAS THERE TO HELP LEAD THE CHEER AFTER WE WON, VIA FACETIME!!
GIANTS MVP FOR THE TOURNAMENT
NOLAN BOGAERT
9/11, .818 AVG, 4R, 7RBI, 11SB AND A BB.
2 IP - 1ER 3K
Although it is sad to see the ball season come to a close, we are a lucky bunch that gets to square up against a couple select teams in the next couple weeks, AUG13 vs Corunna Select, AUG20 vs Sarnia Select.
I can not put into words how proud us coaches were of these kids this year.
Yes we had a "core" of kids who have played together for the last 3-4 years ; David Z, Tyler V, Colby S, Andrew N, Zakk G, and MVP Nolan B. But we also had new"ish" to the game players like Noah B, Kason H, Finn B, Nolan L playing their first baseball games this year. Then adding the young energy of Sterling, Cooper and Thomas to inject some life into the veterans, helped mold these Giants into the "BOYS OF SUMMER" we so fondly will remember. I can go on and on about every player and where they started to where they are now, they all have improved so much as ball players and as young men.
They can all hit, they can all catch, and most (9 out of 13) can pitch!
The only thing they can't do is cut hair very well...
Great season Corunna#2, and to the parents and volunteers, thank you for your help.
Devon Johnson, Erin Nisbet, Dylan Sheffer....there is no way anyone of us could've made this year any better without each other, THANK YOU COACHES!
I'll enjoy watching, coaching, and playing with this group for many years, keep learning from the failures, keep pushing for what is right, and never forget the summer of 2025!
1-2-3 GO GIANTS
Thank you Giants, Great year!
